Dr Mathew McCauley  is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Blackrock Clinic and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Trinity College, University of Dublin. His practice specialises in outpatient adult mental health, with a focus on clinical psychology and behavioural medicine. He provides consultation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults experiencing psychological problems, including the psychological aspects of physical health conditions. 


Dr McCauley received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Warwick, having completed specialist training in military psychology with the UK Ministry of Defence. He completed further military instruction in operational and deployment mental health in the US and UK, located at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and theUniformed Services University for the Health Sciences. Dr McCauley served for six years as a consultant clinical psychologist with United States Air Force, based with the 48thFighter Wing and 501 st  Combat Support Wing. He specialised in supporting US military personnel serving in overseas environments.


Dr McCauley completed approved training as an expert witness and he is listed on the BPS Directory of Expert Witnesses.

 

As a mental health subject matter expert with the United States Air Force, he completed hundreds of assessments concerning occupational health functioning, with rulings on duty restrictions, such as working with specific weapons systems, ability to deploy on operations, etc. 

 

He is experienced in conducting fitness-for-duty occupational health evaluations for military medical boards, suitability-for-duty rulings, and occupational and security clearances. Dr McCauley has also undertaken instructions concerning medico-legal evaluations in the UK and Ireland.
